Common Use Cases
Writers use the word counter to hit target word counts for articles, essays, and assignments. Bloggers check reading time to ensure posts fit their audience's attention span. Students verify that essays meet minimum length requirements. Marketers analyze keyword density to optimize content for SEO. Social media managers check character counts for platform limits (Twitter, Instagram captions, LinkedIn posts). Translators compare source and target text lengths.
Tips
The keyword density feature filters out common English stop words automatically (the, and, for, that, etc.) so you can see which meaningful terms appear most often. Aim for a keyword density where your main topic appears in the top 3 but isn't overused. The reading time estimate assumes 200 words per minute, which is average for English readers — technical content may read slower.
FAQ
How are words counted?
Words are defined as groups of characters separated by whitespace (spaces, tabs, newlines). Hyphenated words like "real-time" count as one word. Numbers and acronyms count as words too.
How is sentence count determined?
Sentences are detected by punctuation marks: period (.), exclamation mark (!), and question mark (?). Ellipses, decimal points, and abbreviations may cause slight overcounts.
What stop words are filtered from keywords?
Common English function words are excluded: the, and, for, that, this, with, from, have, are, was, were, they, their, them, been, will, would, could, should, about, which, when, what. Words under 3 characters are also excluded.
Is my text saved or sent anywhere?
No. All counting and analysis happens locally in your browser with JavaScript. Your text never leaves your device.
